Bridges are used to replace one or more missing teeth. It is a prosthetic device made of materials such as porcelain, gold, or alloy, and will be attached to the gum line or nearby teeth to anchor the device. Understanding the Different Types of Dental Bridges
When it comes to dental bridges, there are three main categories: traditional bridges, cantilever bridges and Maryland bonded bridges. Each can be used to address different dental issues.
- Traditional bridges: a traditional bridge can be used to replace a missing tooth by creating a crown for the tooth or placing an implant on either side of the missing tooth.
- Cantilever bridges: a cantilever bridge can be used when there is only one tooth next to the missing tooth. They are not recommended for use in the back of the mouth.
- Maryland bonded bridges: a Maryland bonded bridge can be used to replace a missing tooth by using metal or porcelain wings that bond to existing, adjacent teeth.
