Why would I need partial dentures?
It is not uncommon to have a few missing teeth, rather than a whole mouthful. We often hear of patients who say that they don't mind living with the gaps, but this is not encouraged. Failing to replace missing teeth can cause gum disease and impact the position of your other teeth. This is why partial dentures are so popular, and beneficial, in today's society.
There are several different styles of partial dentures:
- Fixed
- Removable
- Cast metal
- Flexible
- Acrylic
Whether you would benefit from fixed or removable is usually up to the discretion of your dentist, but many patients are given the option to choose the material they desire. Cast metal is known for its comfortable fit and sleek appearance. Flexible partial dentures also offer a natural fit and require extra time to develop. Acrylic dentures are the most affordable option but can end up feeling bulky.
Regardless of the style you choose, partial dentures can help keep your mouth healthy for years down the line. You will find that partial dentures make it easier to speak and keep the shape of your mouth from shifting unnecessarily.
