What To Do About Bleeding Gums

|

There are a number of factors that can cause gums to bleed, including gingivitis and pregnancy side effects. A small amount of blood here and there may not seem like cause for concern, but if your gums are continuously bleeding, there are some solutions you can implement in your day-to-day life.

Amp Up Your Oral Care Routine

One of the biggest reasons of bleeding gums is a buildup of plaque along your gum line. By failing to remove the plaque, it hardens on the gums and continues to cause irritation. To avoid plaque buildup, you should be brushing your teeth at least twice a day, flossing once a day, and seeing your dentist frequently throughout the year.

Take a Look at Your Toothbrush

If you’re taking good care of your teeth and visiting the dentist on a regularly basis, you may want to reconsider what kind of tools you’re using on your teeth. The American Dental Association site suggests that using a tooth brush with softer bristles can still thoroughly clean your teeth without the irritation of a toothbrush with harder bristles.

Watch What You Eat

Foods that contain high amounts of sugar and simple carbohydrates can put you at risk for bleeding gums. Although you don’t have to completely eliminate them from your life, you should cut back on sweets and incorporate more vegetables and fruits in your daily diet.
